MYSTIC, Conn. - Specialists in paranormal research are investigating whether a historic whaling ship might be home to the ghost of a long-ago seafarer.
A five-member team from the Rhode Island Paranormal Research group visited Mystic Seaport on Friday night to spend time on the Charles W. Morgan, a wooden whaling ship where several visitors have reported seeing the apparition.
The 165-year-old craft made 37 ocean voyages in search of whales during the 60 years it was in use. About 1,000 men worked on the Morgan over those decades.
The ship, due for a $3.5 million restoration next year, one of the main attractions at the Mystic Seaport maritime museum.
The Rhode Island Paranormal Research Group became interested in the Morgan after receiving reports from three different groups of people about the apparition.
The visitors said that while touring the ship last summer, they saw a man in what appeared to be 19th-century clothing working below deck. They said the man, who had a pipe in his mouth, nodded at them but did not speak.
When they went returned to the main deck and asked a museum interpreter what the man was doing, they were told that no one was down below and that no one was assigned to be on the boat that day.
'I automatically questioned it, but they insisted they saw something down there,' Andrew Laird, founder of the paranormal research group, told The Day of New London.
He said that when he asked the three groups for more details, they responded with the same accounts. The three groups were from Massachusetts, Arizona and New York and did not know each other.
They visited within a week's time of each other.
'The fact that we had three reports that were the same made everyone's eyebrows go up," Laird said.
He said that he also received about 40 other reports of possible paranormal activity before those groups related their experiences.
Museum officials gave the group permission to conduct the investigation.
"We're interested in what they find out," said museum publicist Mike O'Farrell, who attended Friday night's investigation. "It's not so much we believe in ghosts and spirits, but it's a chance to do something fun."
Laird and the other investigators said their few hours on the ship convinced them that there was enough evidence of paranormal activity in certain areas to warrant a return visit with more sophisticated equipment.
Renee Blais, who described herself as a "sensitive" who uses touch and smell to connect with a place's energy, said she felt the presence of a seaman named Gerald.
She also described a sense of "sickness, death and despair" among about 15 men as they rode out a large storm in their cramped sleeping quarters.
Some museum employees might not be surprised by the speculation that the whaling ship is haunted. Dawn Johnson, a longtime museum interpreter who used to be assigned to the Morgan, said she used to hate to go down below and close up for the night.
"It was creepy down there at night," she said. "It's cold and clammy. You hear moans and creaking, and you wonder what it is."
Laird said that 90 percent of the time, his group finds a natural explanation for what people are experiencing, whether it's an animal making noise, something structural in the house or a hoax.
"We mainly go in to investigate. We're not saying a place is haunted. We go in with an open mind," he said.
The group also recently investigated reports at Ledge Light in New London Harbor, and believes the brick lighthouse is haunted by a woman and group of children. They plan to return there on June 3.

I had the pleasure of presenting Flowers to Her Majesty on one of her visits to Canada during the 1980's. It was during a walk-about in New Westminster, B.C. I was chosen by my church to do the honors:)
I know that many people are down on the monarchy in these modern times, But I think she is cool.It seems to be more of a thing in Canada, even though she is just a figure head now , to me she is still the Queen, I used to sing "God Save the Queen, and Oh Canada" every morning and say the Lord's Prayer as well growing up...We Have the President here, and George is Cool too, but it is a different sort of thing all together.
The Queen's Family are weird, Charles is a Idiot ,now married to a Horse and a knackered one at that. Andy well he is just a military Party Guy, now divorced from Fergie, with kids... Edward , well not much about him other than I think he is a touch Lavender as they say, you know what I mean, even though he is married and has to "produce" heirs, he seems quite Artistic:) Charles should hand over the reins to William when that time comes , because for him to "rule" would be a disaster...My Dad used to call him Fog bound, for good reason...

Largest T. Rex Skull on Display at Museum - Yahoo! News
BOZEMAN, Mont. - A 5-foot-long Tyrannosaurus rex skull, unearthed nearly 40 years ago in eastern Montana, is now on display at the Museum of the Rockies here.
The skull, which paleontologist Jack Horner says is the world's largest, was found in the Hell Creek Formation near Billings in the late 1960s and collected by Montana State University geologist Bill McManus.
Museum preparator Carrie Ancell began reconstructing the skull fragments in the late 1980s, and Michael Holland finished the work this year.
'We are going to try to figure out how old the animal was when it died by using histology, the study of the microscopic structure of fossil remains,' said Horner, the museum's curator of paleontology. 'The specimen contains several characteristics that suggest this individual was mature, and perhaps quite old, when it died.'

LONDON (Reuters) - It sounds like a job for Wallace and Gromit. A 'monster' rabbit has apparently been rampaging through vegetable patches in a small village in northern England, ripping up leeks, munching turnips and infuriating local gardeners.
In an uncanny resemblance to the plot of the hit animated film 'Wallace & Gromit in the Curse of the Were-Rabbit,' angry horticulturists in Felton, near Newcastle, have now mounted an armed guard to protect their prized cabbages and parsnips.
'They call it the monster. It's very big -- it's nearly the size of a dog,' said Joan Smith, whose son Jeff owns one of the plots under attack.
'It's eating everything, all the vegetables,' she told Reuters. 'They are trying to shoot it. They go along hoping to catch it but I think it's too crafty.'
In the 'Wallace' film, which topped both the U.S. and UK box office charts and in March won an Oscar for best animated feature film, the plasticine heroes battle a mutant rabbit bent on destroying their home town's annual Giant Vegetable Contest.
Those who say they have witnessed Felton's black and brown monster describe it as a cross between a rabbit and a hare with one ear bigger than the other.
Its antics came to public attention when Jeff Smith, 63, raised it as an issue with the local parish council.
'He came along to pay the annual fee for the allotment (vegetable patch) and he said 'ooh we've got this big cross between a hare and a rabbit,'' the council's clerk Lisa Hamlin told Reuters.
Smith himself has described it as a 'brute' which had left huge pawprints.
'This is no ordinary rabbit. We are dealing with a monster,' he was quoted by newspapers as saying.
'It is absolutely massive. The first time I saw it I thought to myself 'What the hell is that?'

happy to return. He is
obviously a half-wit. The bird, on the other
hand, has got to be an
informant and speaks with them regularly. I am
certain he reports my

metal room, his safety
is assured.

Tomorrow I may eat another house plant. Today my
attempt to kill my
captors by weaving around their feet while they
were walking almost
succeeded - must try this at the top of the
stairs.
In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile
oppressors, I once
again induced myself to vomit on their favorite
chair - must try
this on their bed, (or car.....)
Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless
body in an attempt
to make them aware of what I am capable of, and
to try to strike fear
in their hearts. They only cooed and condescended
about what a good little cat I was. Hmmm, not... working according
to plan.
There was some sort of gathering of their
accomplices. I was placed in
solitary throughout the event. However, I could
hear the noise and smell
the food. More important, I overheard that my
confinement was due to my
powers of inducing "allergies." Must learn what
this is and how to use
it to my advantage.
I am convinced the other captives are flunkies
and maybe snitches. The
dog is routinely released and seems more than
happy to return. He is
obviously a half-wit. The bird, on the other
hand, has got to be an
informant and speaks with them regularly. I am
certain he reports my
every move. Due to his current placement in the
metal room, his safety
is assured.
But I can wait; it is only a matter of time.

ALEXANDRIA, Virginia (Reuters) - A federal jury on Monday found September 11 conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui eligible for the death penalty, and a second phase of the trial will be held to determine if he is executed.
The 12-person jury found that Moussaoui lied to the FBI following his arrest three weeks before the September 11 attacks and the lies led to deaths in the hijacked airliner attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people.
'By this verdict, the jury has found that death is a possible sentence in this case,' said Edward Adams, court public information officer.
Last year Moussaoui, 37, pleaded guilty to six counts of conspiracy in connection with the September 11 attacks.
After the judge and jury left the courtroom, Moussaoui shouted: 'You'll never get my blood. God curse you all.'
The decision means the jury will return to the courthouse -- just a few miles from the Pentagon, which was attacked on September 11 -- on Thursday for a second phase of the trial.
They will then hear evidence on whether Moussaoui should be put to death or given a sentence of life in prison.
Federal prosecutors are expected to present testimony from some of the families of victims from the deadly hijackings.

Cool
Well we saw this last night G-man picked up the DVD for me, and decided to suffer through it , even though there were no explosions or big weapons, or alien monsters, or huge battle scenes...I told him well there was that World War Two thing going on:)
I liked it ,it was tragically sad with a hopeful ending, still sad...G-man said " the Japanese are weird...sort of Kimono Goths..."
